Jacks Valley Fire now fully contained
CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - THURSDAY 4:25 P.M. UPDATE: The Jacks Valley Fire is now 100 percent contained, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest reported.
The size is still listed as 285 acres
9:45 A.M. UPDATE: Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest fire crews have downgraded the size of the Jacks Valley Fire to 285, due to better mapping in the daylight.
Containment is now 85%. Between all the agencies involved, there were 250 people assigned to the fire fight. Those crews still on scene will spend the day extinguishing any hot spots that remain.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
8:00 A.M. UPDATE: FEMA has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to help pay for the costs of fighting the Jacks Valley Fire. The grant will cover up to 75 percent of eligible firefighting costs. The fire threatened 1,000 homes along with 10 businesses and a school.
7:25 A.M UPDATE: All evacuations have ben lifted and Jacks Valley Road has been reopened. Containment remains at 75%.
9:50 P.M. UPDATE: The Jacks Valley Fire is 75 percent contained, firefighters said. It remained at 700 acres.
7:14 P.M. UPDATE: The latest estimate is that the Jacks Valley fire is 700 acres.
7:05 P.M. UPDATE: The Jacks Valley Fire is now estimated to be 200 acres. Evacuations continue in the area.
6 P.M. UPDATE: Douglas County said there are evacuations in the areas of Pawnee Street and Arcadia, Cherokee and Green Acres drives south of Jacks Valley Road. People are asked to leave the area quickly and safely.
The Douglas County Community and Senior Center at 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville can be used as an evacuation site.
The fire is reported to be 30 acres with no containment.
5:45 P.M. UPDATE: The East Fork Professional Firefighters Union reports that evacuations have started for the Jacks Valley area.
Other fire agencies are responding, and people should watch for emergency vehicles.
ORIGINAL STORY: Crews are responding to a fire estimated to be 10 acres in northern Douglas County.
The Jacks Valley Fire, renamed from the Arcadia Fire, was reported at 4:27 p.m. It has closed Jacks Valley Road in both directions, the Nevada Department of Transportation reports.
Douglas County reports it is west of Jacks Valley Elementary School.
