RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - At night, the Deco stands out as a towering 10-story building in Downtown Sparks. It’s unique 1920′s to 1930′s inspired look is still a sight to be seen in the day and brings something new to Victorian square

“This theme has never really been done before to my knowledge, at least in Northern Nevada. And it’s the first high-rise built in Northern Nevada in 15 years,” says J Carter Witt, President of Silverwing Development.

It’s a project Witt had been working on for three years. To construct the art deco-themed building, Witt didn’t look for empty space. He thought to build on top of what was already there: the old, four-story C Street parking garage.

“Nothing worked in the garage,” says Witt. “We purchased it from the city and built a building within the building to structurally support the six stories on top and completely redid the garage, as well.”

Today, there’s still plenty of parking-- and so much more above. Floors five to nine feature upscale studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with modern amenities, over-sized windows, and private terraces. On the tenth floor, there are 26 penthouses that feature nearly 12-foot-tall ceilings and upgraded finishes. And all of the units on the outer west side have a priceless view of the outdoor Nugget Event Center.

“You’re going to have literally first-row seats to Toby Keith in August,” says Witt.

So far, Witt says most of the interest in the apartment complex has come from singles, young couples, and those looking to downsize. Folks who are hoping to take advantage of the New Victorian Square, which Witt describes as a walk-able community that is just steps away from food and entertainment and has easy access to Interstate 80. The location could be seen as another convenience for people who work in the industrial center that is booming to the east.

“This to me is the sole lifestyle community in Northern Nevada and as we continue to grow, we will continue to have more activity and synergy here,” says Witt.

Prices start at $1,380 a month for a studio. Leasing just started and the first tenants could move in later this month.
