SPANISH SPRINGS, Nev. (KOLO) - A man is in critical condition after crashing into a power pole in Spanish Springs.

The crash was reported just before 10 a.m. off Calle de la Plata east of Pyramid Highway near Onyo Way.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said the driver had caused a crash at the intersection of Calle de la Plata and Pyramid Highway, then drove off and crashed into the power pole.

A video Tweeted by the Washoe Co. Sheriff’s Office shows an NV Energy worker cutting the power lines. Truckee Meadows Fire Rescue crews could not get near the truck until the lines were de-energized.

Rescue crews pulled the man out about an hour later.

He was taken to a hospital via Care Flight.

A neighbor tells KOLO 8 News Now they heard two loud explosions, and their power was knocked out.

Per NV Energy, there are about 160 customers who will be without power for most of the day.

The Major Accident Investigation Team has been activated and the area will be under investigation until about 4 p.m. Drivers should use Alamosa Drive to get to Pyramid Highway.
