RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - One of the largest youth football and chearleading programs in Northern Nevada has canceled its upcoming season.

The Sierra Youth Football League and Sagebrush Pop Warner announced Thursday that the 2020 season is canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

In a Facebook post, organizers said in part:

It was a most difficult decision due to the many benefits their participants gain from their playing experience. Ultimately the risks of playing this year with the threat and uncertainty of COVID-19 mandated the decision be made in the best interest of the children and their families.

Both leagues have programs in Nevada and California, and cited difficulty in coordinating practices, scrimmages, and games in a safe manner given the differing COVID-19 regulations in each state and counties.

Participants and volunteers will receive full refunds. Families impacted should contact the program their children signed up for to initiate a refund. If you have questions or issues, you can send an email to refunds@gosyfl.com.
