A series of storms are on the horizon... and that's great news for Sierra snowpack.
Sundays storm (2/8/09) left more than a foot of fresh snow many places in the higher terrain of the Sierra. And the better news is that more storms are on the way. After suffering (granted the sunshine was nice) through a very dry January the storm door has finally been kicked wide open.
Our next storm system is on track to hit the mountains on Tuesday evening... continuing overnight and through much of the day on Wednesday. This system could leave behind 12" to 18" inches of snow above 7-thousand feet. Make travel plans early and prepare for chain controls over mountain passes.
As we head into Wednesday morning we'll see some spill over snow began to fall here on the valley floor. Accumulations will generally be light... with a couple of inches possible.
Another storm is set for late Thursday into Friday with active weather through the Valentines Day and Presidents day weekend.
Keeping our eyes way out on the horizon... there are growing indications that we may see an even bigger storm system early next week.
We'll keep you updated from the First Alert Weather Center.
