We can finally say good bye to our mild weather conditions. A cold arctic blast is on its way for the weekend.

Strong winds are expected Friday night into early Saturday morning... as a very strong cold front makes its way through Northern Nevada.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Friday night into early Saturday morning.

SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 45 MPH...WITH GUSTS OF 60 TO 70 MPH ARE
EXPECTED FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. LOCALLY
STRONGER GUSTS TO 80 MPH ARE LIKELY IN WIND PRONE AREAS SUCH AS
WASHOE VALLEY AND HIGHER FOOTHILLS WEST OF RENO AND CARSON CITY.

TRAVELERS...ESPECIALLY THOSE IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...WILL BE
IMPACTED BY STRONG WINDS FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY
MORNING. THIS INCLUDES INTERSTATE 80...HIGHWAY 89...HIGHWAY 50
AND HIGHWAY 395. DAMAGE TO TREES...POWER LINES AND PROPERTY
COULD OCCUR WITH WINDS OF THIS MAGNITUDE.

We can expect unsettled weather through the weekend and into next week. This will likely be the first significant snowfall of season in the high Sierra.
