Rodland Homers Twice in Wolf Pack Win
RENO, Nev.
RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada (9-6) senior shortstop Kevin Rodland hit two home runs as the Wolf Pack defeated Sonoma State (9-14) 10-3 at Peccole Park Tuesday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game skid by the Pack as they improved to 9-6 on the season while the Seawolves fell to 9-14.

RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada (9-6) senior shortstop Kevin Rodland hit two home runs as the Wolf Pack defeated Sonoma State (9-14) 10-3 at Peccole Park Tuesday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game skid by the Pack as they improved to 9-6 on the season while the Seawolves fell to 9-14.

Trailing 1-0 Rodland blasted his first home run leading off the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 1-1. Later in the inning senior first baseman Shaun Kort’s double scored center fielder Westley Moss and designated hitter Brock Stassi after they were both hit by pitch. Kort also scored in the inning and Nevada led 4-1 after one inning of play.

In the fifth inning, left fielder Brian Barnett’s eighth double of the season scored Stassi and Kort to make the score 6-1. SSU scored two in the top of the sixth to pull within three at 6-3.

Pinch hitter Nick Melino got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fifth as he hit his first home run of the season and it was 7-3. Rodland’s second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning scored three runs to make the final score 10-3.

Tyler Rogstad (1-0), the first of six Nevada pitchers earned the win allowing one run on two hits in his two innings. Seawolves starter Joey Van Cleave (0-1) was tagged with the loss allowing four runs on two hits and did not retire a hitter in the game.

Rodland (2-for-4,2R,4RBI), Stassi (2-for-4,2R) and Kort (2-for-3,2R,2RBI) led the Pack with two hits apiece. Rodland drove home four with his two home runs while Kort and Barnett finished with two RBI each.

Left fielder Kyle Jones (2-for-3,R), third baseman Max Shupe (2-for-3,R,RBI), first baseman Ryan Stevens (2-for-4,R) and second baseman Ryan Morales (2-for-3,RB) had two hits apiece for SSU. Three different hitters drove in a run for the Seawolves.

Nevada hosts San Francisco State on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
