RENO, Nev. – Marissa Hammond and Shavon Moore each recorded a double-double and a total of four Nevada players scored in double figures as the University of Nevada women’s basketball team beat CSU East Bay 94-52 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon.

Moore scored a game-high 23 points and added 10 boards while Hammond scored 12 points with 10 rebounds as the Pack overcame a slow start to get the win.

“In the first 10-17 minutes we saw what we knew we’d see but we did some exceptional things in the last 30 minutes of the game,” second-year head coach Jane Albright said. “We played fast and subbed different than last year. Shavon was pretty phenomenal tonight and Johnna really read the safety defense great and came away with eight steals. Jen has come a long way and contributed well.”

CSU East Bay opened the game on a 10-0 run before the Pack cut the lead to four, 15-11, on a jumper by Moore with 9:24 left in the half. Megan Cherry’s jumper with 8:09 left in the first half tied the game at 15-15 and Nevada took its first lead, 17-15, on a layup by Kayla Williams with 7:16 left.

The Pack went on an 18-5 run over the last 5 minutes and 10 seconds of the half to take a 16 point lead at halftime, 41-25.

In the second half, Nevada used a 12-0 run, capped off by a jumper by Moore, to extend its lead to 62-31. The Pack extended its lead to 44 points with under a minute remaining in the game and went on to post the 94-52 win.

Johnna Ward finished the game with 12 points while Jennifer Gross added 11. As a team the Pack ended the game with 69 rebounds to CSU East Bay’s 37. Nevada shot 37.8 percent (31-of-82) from the floor while the Pioneers shot 29.0 percent (20-of-69).

Nevada will open the regular season at home on Friday, November 13, hosting CSU Monterey Bay at 7 p.m.
