Pack Volleyball Knocks Off Belmont, Advances To Tournament Title Game
RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (3-2) volleyball team improved to 3-2 after a 3-1 victory over Belmont (2-4) in its first match on Saturday of the Nevada Invitational taking place at the Virginia Street Gym this weekend. The Wolf Pack won by scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-19 to move to 2-0 in the invitational while the Bruins fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 on the weekend. In the first match of day two Notre Dame (4-1) swept Weber State (0-6) as they also stand at 2-0 on the weekend and the Wildcats are 0-2.

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (3-2) volleyball team improved to 3-2 after a 3-1 victory over Belmont (2-4) in its first match on Saturday of the Nevada Invitational taking place at the Virginia Street Gym this weekend. The Wolf Pack won by scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-19 to move to 2-0 in the invitational while the Bruins fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 on the weekend. In the first match of day two Notre Dame (4-1) swept Weber State (0-6) as they also stand at 2-0 on the weekend and the Wildcats are 0-2.

Nevada started fast building a 13-4 advantage in set one and never were challenged winning easily 25-14. Sophomore Janelle Batista ended the set with a kill off an assist by junior setter Tatiana Santiago. The Pack hit .300 and held the Bruins to a .112 attack percentage.

There were eight ties and three lead changes in set two before the Bruins evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 victory. Belmont put together a 4-0 run to break a 13-13 tie and Nevada was unable to rebound from the Bruins streak. Nevada hit zero and Belmont .300 in the second frame.

With set three tied at 16-16 the Pack scored five unanswered points to move in front 21-16 and closed out the set with a 4-2 run to win 25-18 and take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Pack senior Kylie Harrington served the final three points of the second set. Nevada hit .250 and the Bruins .100.

The fourth set was tied eight times with the last coming at 17-17 before an 8-2 Pack run gave Nevada the 25-19 set victory and 3-1 match win. Harrington ended the match with her 12th kill of the day off an assist from Santiago. The Pack produced its best hitting set of the match at .346 while Belmont hit .269.

Harrington topped the Pack with 12 kills while senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin added 11. Senior libero Nicole Link recorded a match-high 19 digs and Santiago had a match-high 32 assists.

Kayla Albritton finished with a match-high 18 kills for Belmont and Tara Blood totaled 10. Channing Salava and Hannah Miranda had 27 and 12 assists respectively for the Bruins.

Nevada hit .222 in the match and Belmont .190. The Pack held a 7-3 advantage in blocking with Santiago leading the way with four.

The Pack will now play Notre Dame tonight at 7:00 p.m. to decide the Nevada Invitational championship. Belmont and Weber State play for third at 5:00 p.m.
