Firefighters in Northern California are struggling to gain control of a growing wildfire that has destroyed at least seven homes and forced thousands of residents to evacuate.

The Chips Fire that began July 29 continues to burn and is now up to 47,040 acres two miles NW of Belden, California. It is at 32 percent containment.

In Nevada, firefighters are alert for new fires. They're patrolling for hot spots, and repairing disturbances such as cut fences and bulldozer and hand-built fire lines. The fire is burning 461,047 acres and is 97% contained.

Line construction and suppression efforts will continue along the north eastern edge of the fire along the Buckhorn Road.

One more hot day before we see the biggest cool-down in about a month.

The Chips Fire in Clear Creek drainage southeast of Butt Valley Reservoir did not move overnight. Crews moved into the area, but were unable to establish control lines because of unsafe conditions.
