Reno, NV - There were numerous spin-outs and crashes during Monday's commute - thanks to the slick roads and snowfall that was worse than a lot of people expected.
Trooper Chuck Allen with the Nevada Highway Patrol says during the four-hour time period between 5am and 9am, there were 27 crashes in the greater Reno-Sparks area. None of the accidents resulted in serious or life-threatening injuries, but incidents shook up people in the area. Many people were late to work.
Diana Chandler, who came to Reno from Susanville, said her husband was supposed to have surgery at 10am, but they showed up to the hospital late because of the traffic.
"Traffic was horrible," said Chandler, who spent about four hours on 395 South. "It was moving about a mile an hour."
The largest problem Monday morning included both directions of the 6-mile section between Glendale Avenue and Golden Valley interchanges.
Trooper Allen says since we're only in February, when it comes to storms, we're not out of the woods yet. He advises drivers to be extra cautious during snowy commute days like this one. For instance, keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and allow yourself extra time to get to your destination.
