Sierra Gets More than 3 Feet of Fresh Snow

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) - Skiers and snowboarders in the Sierra are waking up to fresh snow after the region experienced one of its strongest storms of the season.

Boreal Mountain Resort atop Donner Summit in Truckee reported between 36 and 40 inches of snow during the 24-hour period that ended at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Other resorts saw equally high snowfall totals during the period. The fresh precipitation comes on top of 3 to 4 feet of snow that fell earlier in the week and produced the best skiing and snowboarding conditions of the season.

Forecasters say snow will continue to fall intermittently through the weekend although accumulations are expected to be minor, with just 2 to 4 additional inches expected on Saturday.

Elsewhere in Northern California, rain is likely although colder temperatures could bring a dusting of snow at lower elevations.
