Reno's Hazy, Week-Long Inversion Should Clear Soon

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Another day of hazy weather in the Reno-Sparks area should finally give way to some clearing on Wednesday as a new system moves in from the Pacific Northwest.

A temperature inversion has been sitting in the region for more than a week, producing colder conditions in the valleys than the mountains and trapping pollutants close to the ground. That's prompted health officials to ask local residents to avoid burning wood during most of that stretch.

Dawn Fishler of the National Weather Service tells the Reno Gazette-Journal that Wednesday's winds gusting up to 15 to 20 mph should be enough to clear out the atmosphere at least temporarily.
