RENO, NV - With this week's record breaking temperatures comes high fire danger. One simple spark can lead to a major wildfire so its important to clear away any dead weeds or vegetation. You want to make sure that you have at least 100 feet of defensible space around your home. If you have to do yard work, like mowing your lawn, make sure to do it early in the morning. Also, remember to get rid of leaves in your gutter and trim branches at least 6 feet from the ground.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to your vehicle:
- Never pull over in dry grass because the heat from your exhaust can often spark a fire.
- Make sure your trailer chains don't drag on the ground.
- It's important to check your tire pressure before hitting the road to avoid driving on the wheel rim.
- Never want to let your brake pads wear too thin.
You also want to make sure you're disposing of cigarette butts properly. A good option is in a metal container.
