RENO, Nev – Thursday night’s thunderstorm took many by surprise and caused plenty of problems for people around Reno, including car enthusiasts at Hot August Nights at the Grand Sierra Resort.

Thousands of people who were enjoying the car show had to take cover underneath the canopy and inside the casino during Thursday's rainstorm. The Grand Sierra was just one of 12-thousand NV Energy customers that lost power during the storm, which knocked out stoplights and flooded streets.

Many of the people who came down for Hot August Nights decided to wait things out and went back to the show after the rain let up. Wendy Brott from Sun Valley said, “I just waited out the rain going to go back out and check out the cars they're a little wet, but we're not that's what counts. I was prepared I feel like a lot of people weren’t. I feel sorry for the owners of the cars that have to deal with all the waterlogged interiors the leather.”

But the rain won’t keep Hot August Nights down, the fun doesn’t stop until August 11th.
