Extreme Weather - Feb. 21

Strong storms whipped through the plains states yesterday with whiteout conditions in parts of Colorado. In Kansas strong winds combined with hail, snow and ice and turned the roads into skating rinks. Power is out in a large portion of the plains but so far there aren't any reports of injuries.

Icy roadways, ramps and bridges send drivers into ditches Monday morning near Raleigh, North Carolina. Salt trucks worked overtime trying to keep up with the slick spots. In one crash a Durham police cruiser caught fire after it collided with a tractor-trailer. Two officers received minor injures.

Drivers in Richmond, Virginia are wishing they had the holiday off. State police say they responded to more than one-thousand accidents in a 24 hour period. Two hundred of those where in Richmond alone. Black ice is to blame for many of the crashes.
