I-80 over Donner Pass has Chain Requirements

Here is the latest information from CalTrans about I-80

[IN THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA & SIERRA NEVADA]
**FOR EASTBOUND TRAFFIC:
CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM 1 MI EAST OF BAXTER (PLACER CO) TO 7 MI
EAST OF TRUCKEE (NEVADA CO)

EASTBOUND TRUCKS ARE BEING SCREENED AT APPLEGATE (PLACER CO) - DRIVERS MUST HAVE MAXIMUM CHAINS IN THEIR POSSESSION IN ORDER TO PROCEED - PERMIT LOADS ARE
PROHIBITED

**FOR WESTBOUND TRAFFIC:
CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM 11 MI WEST OF THE NEVADA STATE LINE TO WHITMORE
(PLACER CO)

WESTBOUND TRUCKS ARE BEING SCREENED 5 MI WEST OF RENO /AT MOGUL/ (WASHOE CO) - DRIVERS MUST HAVE MAXIMUM CHAINS IN THEIR POSSESSION IN ORDER TO PROCEED - PERMIT LOADS ARE PROHIBITED

The CalTrans website reports Interstate 80 is closed to commercial trucks in both directions in the mountains.

UPDATE 4:00pm:
The CalTrans website reports westbound traffic on Interstate 80 is being held at Truckee while crews clean up several spin-out accidents.

UPDATE 2:55pm:
The CalTrans website indicates I-80 is closed to westbound
commercial trucks from the Nevada state line to Applegate due to multiple spin-outs.

Chain controls are in effect on 80 from Gold Run to the Nevada state line. Chains are required for all vehicles except 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels.

UPDATE 2:15pm:
The CalTrans website indicates I-80 is closed in California from Applegate to the Nevada state line due to multiple spin-outs.

No word on when it will re-open.

UPDATE 11:30am:
The traffic hold for the eastbound lanes of I-80 at Colfax has been lifted.

Traffic was stopped for time Sunday morning so crews could clean up and clear a number of spin-out accidents on the freeway between Colfax and Truckee.

RENO, Nev. -- The weather and dangerous road conditions are keeping some travelers from reaching their holiday destinations in a timely manner.

The CalTrans website reports eastbound traffic on Interstate 80 is being held at Colfax for a time while crews clean up several spin-out accidents on the highway between there and the state line.

This means traffic could be let through as soon as the roadway is clear.

Chain controls are in effect on 80 from Gold Run to the Nevada state line. Chains are required for all vehicles except 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels.
