It took only two and a half days for the temperature to drop 60°. Make way for the first snow of the season.
An unseasonably cold early fall storm took the weather from record highs in the 90° on Sunday to early morning lows in the 20° Wednesday morning. As everyone on the valley floor headed to work Wednesday, they were treated to the first Sierra Nevada dusting of the season.
Both the Sierra Nevada and Virginia range saw at least some snow down to about 6500'. On the Mount Rose Hwy summit as much as half an inch could be seen.
Though this snow won't last, a similar storm system could bring another dose of fresh powder to the upper elevations by the end of the coming weekend, and maybe even a flurry or two for Reno.
It is about a week late...but fall has arrived.
