TS Karl Strengthens, Headed To Mexico

MIAMI (AP) - A strengthening Tropical Storm Karl is bearing down on the resort beaches of the Mayan Riviera on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Karl's maximum sustained winds have increased to about 65 mph. Authorities have warned of heavy rains but have not yet ordered evacuations.

Hurricane Julia has become a Category 4 storm far out over the Atlantic with maximum sustained winds near 135 mph.

And the National Hurricane Center in Miami says some additional strengthening is possible Wednesday.

Also far from land over the Atlantic, Hurricane Igor's top winds have weakened slightly to near 145 mph.
