Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State
Wilbur D. May Museum, Reno
Forget Las Vegas -- In the 1930s Nevada's claim to fame was its taxes... or lack thereof! This summer, the Wilbur D. May Museum will highlight one of the state's first marketing campaigns in a brand new exhibit. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State explores the way state leaders used taxes to target millionaires to move to Nevada during the 1930s and 40s. The unconventional plan brought dozens of colorful characters to the Reno area, including Wilbur May, E. L. Cord, Max Fleischmann, and others. The new exhibit features many original artifacts on display for the first time, including One Sound State pamphlets and ephemera, photographs, music, videos, and more.
Rush to Reno opens June 18 and runs through September 14. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and children. The exhibit is an official NV 150 event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.
