Great Reno Balloon Races--Children's Cabinet Tethered Rides
Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra Street Reno, NV
The Children's Cabinet will again be giving 900 pre-selected, program-served children free tethered balloon rides at the Great Reno Balloon Races this year. Sponsored by the Wilbur May Foundation, riders ages 4 to 18 will be flown up 50 feet with an adult chaperone in one of two special-shaped balloons. This is a fun, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for children to see Reno from the top. Don't miss it!
Call for volunteers!
We need volunteers for our balloon ride event. Duties include setting up the balloons (taking them out of the bags, spreading them on the ground and inflating/de-inflating them), taking tickets, walking kids to and from basket and manning the tether ropes. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State
Wilbur D. May Museum, Reno
Forget Las Vegas -- In the 1930s Nevada's claim to fame was its taxes... or lack thereof! This summer, the Wilbur D. May Museum will highlight one of the state's first marketing campaigns in a brand new exhibit. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State explores the way state leaders used taxes to target millionaires to move to Nevada during the 1930s and 40s. The unconventional plan brought dozens of colorful characters to the Reno area, including Wilbur May, E. L. Cord, Max Fleischmann, and others. The new exhibit features many original artifacts on display for the first time, including One Sound State pamphlets and ephemera, photographs, music, videos, and more.
Rush to Reno opens June 18 and runs through September 14. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and children. The exhibit is an official NV 150 event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.
