Senior Fest returns to Reno Town Mall, Sept.2, from 9-2 pm. Senior Fest, in its 19 year, is a one stop shop event to senior services, businesses, and organizations.
Over 55 businesses and organizations will provide resources and information on services that assist seniors to live independently. People who attend Senior Fest do so to connect to providers in the community that offer materials on caregiving, Medicare, Social Security, health care and a variety of services that promote healthy aging.
Boomers who are uninsured and underinsured can take part in health screenings offered by Senior Care Plus and Renown health beginning at 8 a.m. for early birds. Health screenings will be also provided regardless of a person insurance. Free flu and pneumonia shots will be available as long as supplies last.
There will also be a preview of the Eldorado’s Showroom entertainment “Spectra” coming in August. Erika Paul and the Swingin Jazzkats will entertain with jazz classics.
Free parking is available at the mall and Atlantis Parking Lot. There will be shuttle service provided by Lakeside Manor and The Arbors Memory Care Community.

Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State
Wilbur D. May Museum, Reno
Forget Las Vegas -- In the 1930s Nevada's claim to fame was its taxes... or lack thereof! This summer, the Wilbur D. May Museum will highlight one of the state's first marketing campaigns in a brand new exhibit. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State explores the way state leaders used taxes to target millionaires to move to Nevada during the 1930s and 40s. The unconventional plan brought dozens of colorful characters to the Reno area, including Wilbur May, E. L. Cord, Max Fleischmann, and others. The new exhibit features many original artifacts on display for the first time, including One Sound State pamphlets and ephemera, photographs, music, videos, and more.
Rush to Reno opens June 18 and runs through September 14. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and children. The exhibit is an official NV 150 event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.
