The Air National Guard Mobile Experience is a free interactive experience that provides people an opportunity to participate in simulated challenges that replicate the real-life experiences of Air Guard men and women during Basic Military Training, technical training and on drill weekend. Participants will also visit an interactive uniform experience, where they can digitally view themselves wearing the Air Guard uniform from their chosen career field. Description: The Sugar Pine Foundation and Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trail head Visitor Center, and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, is teaming up for this morning of discovery and fun in the Van Sickle Bi-State Park in South Lake Tahoe. We’ll lead you on this short trek, exploring forest management of this area while we work our way up to enjoy panoramic vistas and a brief visit to a small waterfall. All the while, we’ll discuss the fate of the magnificent Sugar Pine and what individuals are doing to help the species persevere for future generations. You will be able to see people in action as they collect Sugar Pine cones from high up in the trees and the Director of the Sugar Pine Foundation will share her seed bank of knowledge with us.

Toccata in 9/11 Memorial Concert

TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will begin the Carson Valley Arts Council’s 2014-2015 Concert Series with a concert that commemorates the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of Saint Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, on Friday, September 12, 2014.

Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State

Forget Las Vegas -- In the 1930s Nevada's claim to fame was its taxes... or lack thereof! This summer, the Wilbur D. May Museum will highlight one of the state's first marketing campaigns in a brand new exhibit. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State explores the way state leaders used taxes to target millionaires to move to Nevada during the 1930s and 40s. The unconventional plan brought dozens of colorful characters to the Reno area, including Wilbur May, E. L. Cord, Max Fleischmann, and others. The new exhibit features many original artifacts on display for the first time, including One Sound State pamphlets and ephemera, photographs, music, videos, and more.
Rush to Reno opens June 18 and runs through September 14. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and children. The exhibit is an official NV 150 event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.
