Veterans Guest House Fashion Show

Join the Veterans Guest House for an exciting event featuring a runway full of the latest fashions modeled by women who have served or are serving in our country’s military. Boots Meet Fashion, Fashion Meets Fun--is set for Thursday, September 11 at 11:30 a.m. in the Tuscany Ballroom at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino.

The fashion show and champagne luncheon is being hosted by News Talk 780 KOH’s Monica Jaye and Ross Mitchell. New this year, the show will feature styles from five local clothing stores. Scheels, Labels, Dressed Like That, Joan Marie and Macy’s will deck our military women in everything from sportswear to evening attire.

A fashion show raffle will include great prizes to pamper and entertain you. There will also be an opportunity to shop with several vendors, including wine and fashion. Tickets are $45 per person for the champagne lunch and can be purchased by visiting www.veteransguesthouse.org, or by calling 775-324-6958, ext 11. You can also sponsor a table for $400, please contact the above number. Proceeds will benefit the Veterans Guest House, a home away from home for the military and their families in times of medical need.

The Air National Guard Mobile Experience at Reno Air Races

The Air National Guard Mobile Experience is a free interactive experience that provides people an opportunity to participate in simulated challenges that replicate the real-life experiences of Air Guard men and women during Basic Military Training, technical training and on drill weekend. Participants will also visit an interactive uniform experience, where they can digitally view themselves wearing the Air Guard uniform from their chosen career field. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State

Forget Las Vegas -- In the 1930s Nevada's claim to fame was its taxes... or lack thereof! This summer, the Wilbur D. May Museum will highlight one of the state's first marketing campaigns in a brand new exhibit. Rush to Reno: Millionaires in the One Sound State explores the way state leaders used taxes to target millionaires to move to Nevada during the 1930s and 40s. The unconventional plan brought dozens of colorful characters to the Reno area, including Wilbur May, E. L. Cord, Max Fleischmann, and others. The new exhibit features many original artifacts on display for the first time, including One Sound State pamphlets and ephemera, photographs, music, videos, and more.

Rush to Reno opens June 18 and runs through September 14. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and children. The exhibit is an official NV 150 event, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.
