Science Saturday--Moons, Miners & Mars: Adventures in Space Mining

Event Dates and Times

10/14/2017
National Automobile Museum, Reno
Coming soon, innovators and investors like James Cameron and mining company partners will be looking to the Moon and asteroids for the resources we need, both here on Earth and to explore the rest of the Solar System.
Discover examples of these amazing efforts, fun hands-on activities, and simulations of what these exciting missions will be like.
First our flight directors will take us on space flights to the surface of the Moon and Mars in the Advanced Spaceflight Lab and the Spaceship Earth Digital Dome.
Then Dr. Steve Metzger, who worked with NASA’s Pathfinder Rover data, will take us out to a mock-up Mars landscape to look for and collect rock samples. We’ll even use real robotic rovers!
Finally, Dr. Wendy Calvin, with NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Science Team, will provide us with Mars data and science instruments to help us analyze our rock and mineral samples.
Each participant will come away with their own Moon- and Mars-type rocks — as well the adventure of having simulated a NASA sample return mission!
Event ticket includes admission to the museum, refreshments, and the chance to work firsthand on our geology science team.
Don’t miss your chance to experience this incredible journey! Reserve a spot for yourself, a friend and/or a family member today!
***Science Saturday activities begin at 9:30 am and most do not repeat during the course of our adventure!***

Bottomline, they help create community. I can’t wait to see what this crop of artists brings to our town!” http://artspotreno.com/reno-mural-expo-2017/

The Real Inspector Hound

Event Dates and Times

10/6/2017 - 10/28/2017
Bruka Theatre 99 N. Virginia, Reno, NV 89501
Reno, NV. Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound opens the 25th anniversary season at Brüka Theatre on October 6, 2017. Feuding theatre critics Moon and Birdboot, the first a fusty philanderer and the second a pompous and vindictive second stringer, are swept into the whodunit they are viewing. In the hilarious spoof of Agatha Christie-like melodramas that follows, as mists rise about isolated Muldoon Manor, Moon and Birdboot become dangerously implicated in the lethal activities of an escaped madman.

The Real Inspector Hound is a madcap murder mystery farce directed by John Blomberg. Blomberg, who directed last year’s Happy Birthday Wanda June, has worked with many theatre companies in the region as an actor, director and theatre maker.

The Real Inspector Hound opens at Brüka with a post-show opening night champagne reception and appetizers from the Wild River Grille on October 6, 2017. The show runs weekly Thursday through Sunday through October 28, 2017. Evening shows begin at 8:00 pm (Artist night is Wednesday October 25, 2017 – all tickets on this night only are $10.) There is one Sunday matinee on October 15th at 2:00 PM followed by a talk back with the company and our audience. The doors open a half an hour before curtain time. The play is suggested for ages 8 and up.
