JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-Time PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Reports to: Production Supervisor/News Director
The Production Assistant has general responsibility for Studio Camera Operation, Audio Engineer and Tape Editing for newscasts.
Duties Include:
• Assist Director in all areas of production.
• Operate Audio board for live and pre-taped productions, and upkeep of CD and disc players.
• Studio operation duties includes: verify lighting and equipment setup for newscasts including placement and testing studio microphones
• Operation of studio cameras live during newscasts, director cues, camera/pedestal operation, plus studio camera positioning.
• Maintain studio lighting system, check instruments and change lamps as required and re-aim fixtures/balancing to maintain consistent studio lighting.
• Creation of graphics for newscasts that include OTS and full-screens. Responsibility includes knowing and maintaining constant station graphic format and ensuring proper grammar and spelling.
• Responsible for clean work environment in production and studio areas. (Being aware of safety hazards, cords, or other obstructions with and without guest present.
• Assisting promotion personnel with production of topical promos and special segments.
• Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications Include:
• Understanding of basic new production workflow
• Ability to operate non-linear ENG editing equipment and deck-to-deck.
• Ability to operate newsroom computer system, VzRT, Curious Maps, Audio board.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
• Good or corrected vision and hearing
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and in live situations without losing composure.
Work scheduling may vary because of the nature of the news process. Assignments can include weekends and nights.
