The Weekday Director has the general responsibility for directing and technical directing live or videotaped productions as assigned, and supervising crew associated with production. Regular assignments include directing specific newscasts, and various station productions both in studio and remote. The Director will work to maintain the on-air look of local programs as designed/produced.
Job Duties:
• Direct/TD live and videotaped productions including newscasts, public services and commercial shows and other assignments as required.
• Understanding of equipment in control room, graphics computer, videotape area, studio and off-line edit suite, along with other technical knowledge required to operate production equipment. Computer knowledge to include graphics programs and newsroom computer system.
• Requires a working knowledge and editing ability on production and news non-linear editing systems.
• Knowledge of all production positions in order to direct, evaluate and fill-in as needed.
• Supervise production crew for scheduled shift. This includes supervision of personnel, studio operation, on-air quality concerns, station format, and training assignments.
• Care of equipment and backup systems including work areas and studio. Responsible to maintain the cleanliness of control room and studio.
• Training of new personnel as assigned.
• On call for breaking news, severe weather and other non-scheduled news events.
• Oversee studio crew in maintaining lighting system for news set and studio.
• Assist in maintaining newscast air check system.
• Variable work schedule due to changing shifts, station projects, vacation schedules, etc.
• Production crew scheduling when assigned.
• Oversee production process of daily news topicals. Shoot and edit when required.
Qualifications:
• Good communication skills.
• College Degree or 2 years job experience.
• Live television production experience.
• Ability to perform tasks associated with office duties:
o Above average typing skills.
o Operating knowledge of Windows based PC’s.
o Basic organizational skills.
• Good people skills.
• Valid Driver’s license and good driving record.
• Pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing is possible throughout employment.
Physical Demands:
• Able to transport oneself to client meetings and on-location shoots.
• Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
• Good or corrected hearing and vision.
• Good English speaking skills, able to speak clearly.
• Able to carry moderately heavy equipment, cameras, tripods, monitors.
• May be working in extreme weather conditions, heat or cold.
• Potential exposure to high noise or unusual noise or light levels.
Miscellaneous:
• Work schedule will vary due to scheduling demands, or possible permanent schedule changes.
• Work assignments will at times include evening, weekends, holidays and out-of-town assignments.
• Regular and reasonable work attendance is required. Consistent tardiness will not be tolerated.
