Reports to: News Director

The Studio Camera Operator is assigned general studio and production duties, which include studio camera operation.

Job Duties:
• Perform studio operation duties, verify lighting and equipment setup for newscasts including placement and testing studio microphones.
• Operation of studio cameras – knowing how to operate cameras properly, director cues, camera/pedestal operation, plus studio camera positions.
• Maintain studio lighting system with the supervision of directors and Operations Manager. Check lighting instruments and change lamps as required and re-aim fixtures as needed to maintain consistent studio lighting.
• Training of new studio camera operators as assigned.
• Creation of graphics for newscast. This requires a working knowledge of Windows operating system on a PC. Responsibility includes knowing and maintaining constant station graphic format and ensuring proper grammar and spelling.
• Responsible to maintain a clean work environment in production and studio areas. During the course of the show it is the Studio Camera Operator’s responsibility to be aware of all things going on in the studio, which includes placement of camera cords and other objects, which may obstruct operation or create a hazard.
• Position may include other opportunities such as editing station episodic promotion or shooting/editing news topical promotion.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
• Good communication skills.
• College Degree or equivalent job experience.
• Ability to perform tasks associated with office duties:
o Above average typing skills.
o Operating knowledge of Windows based PC’s.
o Basic organizational skills.
• Good people skills.
• Pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing is possible throughout employment.

Physical Demands:
• Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
• Good or corrected hearing and vision.
• Good English speaking skills, able to speak clearly.
• Able to move moderately heavy equipment, cameras, tripods, monitors.
• May be working in extreme weather conditions, heat or cold.
• Potential exposure to high noise or unusual noise or light levels.

Miscellaneous:
• Work schedule will vary due to scheduling demands, or possible permanent schedule changes.
• Work assignments will at times include evening, weekends, & holidays. Regular and reasonable work attendance is required. Job Description is subject to change, and does include the right of management to add duties “as assigned”.
