Deadly Hit and Run

A kidnapping suspect's speeding pickup truck
plowed into a crowd of immigrant day laborers this morning in
Sparks, killing one and injuring two others.
Police say the accident occurred shortly after the suspect was
accused of abducting his former girlfriend from the nearby Reno
Hilton where she works.
The fleeing suspect was unable to make a turn at an intersection
near the state's mental facility, and his vehicle struck three men
waiting on a sidewalk for job offers.
A 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other
men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect - a 35-year-old Reno man - fled on foot and is still
at large. His former girlfriend also escaped with minor injuries.
No names were immediately released.
Between 20 and 40 day laborers typically stand on the sidewalk
along Galletti Way, waiting for builders, homeowners or others to
drive by with job offers.
