Meteorologist Dennis Flack has been waking up viewers with a smile in the Truckee Meadows since October of 2007.
First the fun things…
Dennis’ middle name is Ottar (pronounced Ō-tar). Dennis is an animal lover. He and his wife Stacey have two cats, Hogan and Cream Cheese, and a dog Gordo. You can see Dennis' love for photography at www.redstormphotography.com. Dennis is a water basketball champion. He claims he played on the woman’s basketball team in college (that may or may not be true). There is still only one stop light in the county Dennis grew up in and his home town of Algoma (pop. 3357) is the biggest “city” in that county. Dennis loves to travel and will eat anything once. This includes eating fried cicadas in China and drinking horse milk in Germany. Dennis’ favorite animal is the yeti. Dennis has seen four tornadoes in one day. Dennis was once dressed up as a bumble bee for his birthday and as Splinter (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) for his girlfriends’ birthday. Dennis likes to play basketball, but he is a big uncoordinated goof.
…and now the professional things.
Dennis graduated from Valparaiso University with a bachelors’ degree in Broadcast Meteorology. He started his professional career as a private forecaster in Wausau Wisconsin. There he forecasted for many different companies including ski hills, school districts and city road departments. He also did forecasts for radio stations across the Midwest and filled in on the evening news.
In 2004 Dennis started at WIFR in Rockford Illinois as their weekend meteorologist. Dennis also reported on anything from agricultural stories to murders three days a week in Rockford. Even though he learned a lot and ended up enjoying reporting for three years, Dennis is excited to be doing weather full time.
KOLO-8 News Now Daybreak is perfect for Dennis for several reasons. While forecasting the Truckee Meadows’ challenging winters and beautiful summers, he also likes to have a little fun. The two hour morning show gives him plenty of opportunities to do that. And though the hours are a little weird (Dennis usually gets in around 3 in the morning) he likes having the entire afternoon to enjoy the sights and sounds of Reno.
