Learn more about Matt!
Matt Vaughan joined KOLO 8 News Now as a reporter in June 2014. Matt got his start in news at KHSL-KNVN in Chico, CA, where he served as an assignment editor for a year and then as a reporter for nearly 3 years. He covered lots of wildfires during his time in Chico, and suspects he'll have lots more opportunities here in northern Nevada.
Matt graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Radio/TV Broadcasting in 2010. He is originally from Manteca, CA, near Sacramento and lived in northern California his entire life before moving to Reno. Matt says he knew he wanted to be a reporter after he was asked to co-host a Boys and Girls Club telethon in his hometown at the age of 14. After being in front of a camera on live TV for the first time, he says he was hooked.
Matt is excited to start the next chapter of his life in the Silver State with his fiance Kristan, a native of northern Nevada. He also credits working in news for giving him the opportunity to meet his fiance.
Matt says he looks forward to exploring his new surroundings and taking advantage of all the Reno area has to offer. He is a big sports fan and plans to attend lots of Reno Aces games and UNR sporting events. In his spare time, Matt likes to play soccer, watch movies and do anything that relates to being outdoors (wakeboarding, snowboarding, camping, etc.).
