Danita Cohen has been waking up at 1:00 in the morning, to wake up the rest of Reno, since 1998... and she says she's not even a morning person!
Danita graduated from UNR with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1995, and before she had her diploma in hand, she called News Channel 8's then-News Director Ed Pearce to find out when she could start work. Ed told Danita she needed to "start work" in a smaller market. So that sent Danita packing to Nebraska where she produced and anchored the noon newscast for KHAS-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lincoln. After her first day on the job there, she called Ed again, begging to come home.
Danita joined News Channel 8 in 1997 as a one-woman-band; shooting, writing, and editing all of her own stories. In 1998, she joined the morning team to anchor News Channel 8 Daybreak.
Danita has been to New York City two times since September 11th, bringing home stories of how our community is making a difference in the lives of the families of the victims back east.
Danita is on the board for the Transplant Network, making sure that people are aware of the severe need for organ donation. She's also involved with the Foster Grandparents, an intergenerational program that pairs kids with senior citizens.
Danita has darling twin daughters, Mandy and Samantha. Her family enjoys traveling to some of their favorite spots including Hawaii, Walt Disney World, or anywhere a cruise ship sails!
