Colin joined KOLO 8 News Now as a reporter in May of 2013. It's his first stint in the Silver State and he is happy to be here.
Colin comes to Reno from Redding, CA where he worked as a Bureau Chief for KHSL-TV for two years. While there, he was in charge of gathering and producing news pieces for an entire region.
He got his first newsroom experience as an intern, and later Assignment Editor at KTVU Channel 2 News in the Bay Area. It was there he learned about what it takes to produce excellent journalism.
But Colin gives credit where credit is due. His career would have never been possible without the professors at the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University. It was there he learned the ethics of journalism, and basics of reporting the news.
It was long before college that Colin decided on a career in journalism. Going into his sophomore year of high school, his parents forced him to take a news and video production class. He was upset with the decision at the time, but quickly fell in love with the field. Now, he can't thank his parents enough.
Colin is a no-nonsense newsman. While it's important to provide viewers with stories on a variety of different topics, he is always sure to tell them why a particular story is important to them. At the end of the day, Colin does have his favorite stories, though: severe weather, wildfires, and fishing. The first two are vitally important to viewers, and the last... Colin just likes a good excuse to fish while on the clock.
On his time off, Colin hits the slopes, visits family in Sacramento, and plays with his adorable 10-year-old black lab puppy, Teal.
