RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada football team completed its 2013 signing class on Wednesday as kicker/punter Brent Zuzo signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wolf Pack in the fall, coach Brian Polian announced Tuesday.

Zuzo is from Plymouth High School in Canton, Mich., where he earned first-team All-State accolades from the Associated Press and the Detroit News.

“We stated earlier in February that we were holding on to one scholarship in case we found a player after the signing date that we thought could help us,” Polian said. “We have found that player in Brent Zuzo. Brent was an All-State selection in the state of Michigan and considered one of the top specialists in the country by some of the most trusted kicking instructors in the country. His addition will create good competition for the kicker and punter spots heading into the fall. We are very excited to add him to what we believe is a fantastic recruiting class.”

Zuzo, who was also the captain of his high school soccer team, led the state in touchbacks last season as a senior. He is involved in National Honor Society, student council, Key Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Nevada lost kicker Allen Hardison to graduate after the 2012 season. The Wolf Pack returns punter Chase Tenpenny, who will be a senior, and kickoff specialist Colin Ditsworth, a junior.

The Wolf Pack opens spring drills on Wednesday at Wolf Pack Park with the annual Silver and Blue Spring Game set for April 20 at Mackay Stadium.

Spring practices are closed to the media and general public but anyone who played at Nevada and lettered is welcome at practice.

“One of the points of emphasis for our program this offseason has been connecting with the community,” Polian said. “For our players and coaches, that has to start with the people that came before us and represented this program and university on the football field. With that in mind, we want to welcome all former Nevada football letterwinners to spring practice. Any former player that wants come join us and watch a session is encouraged to come out -- we ask only that they try and reach our operations people in advance and let us know that they are coming. There is a rich history and tradition associated with Wolf Pack football and we are excited to embrace it.”
