RENO, Nev. - Wolf Pack sophomore Andrew Cornella has been dismissed from the Men's Golf team.
KOLO 8 News Now has learned that Cornella got into a physical altercation with head coach Jacob Wilner on Monday at the Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale. The two had to be separated by other members of the team.
In an exclusive interview with KOLO-TV, Nevada Athletic Director Cary Groth said that Cornella is no longer on the team and will transfer to another school.
Groth would not elaborate on the details of the fight, but stressed that no charges will be pursued, and that both sides are eager to move on from the incident.
Groth added that Coach Wilner remains in good standing at the University, and is not viewed as an instigator for the fight by the school.
Cornella was in his second season at Nevada. He is a graduate of St. Mary's high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was named first team All-State his final two years.
