The University of Nevada softball team used a 10-0, run-rule victory over Santa Clara to split its first day of action at the Wolf Pack Classic at Hixson Park on Saturday. The Wolf Pack fell 6-4 to Idaho State in game two.

Nevada is 18-13 after the split, while Santa Clara fell to 3-22 and Idaho State improved to 11-14.

A seven-run fourth was the difference in the Pack's contest with the Broncos, and it included Megan Fincher's team-leading seventh home run. On an 0-1 pitch, Fincher lifted a ball to center field and out of the ball park, scoring Lauren Lastrapes and Jasmine Jenkins. Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a walk against the Broncos, and raised her average to .384 in all after both games, which tied Erin jones for the team lead.

Nevada scored its 10 runs on 12 hits and Karlyn Jones won for the 12th time this season, pitching her fourth shutout and 11th complete game in 12 starts. After the win, Nevada had won eight consecutive games, the second longest streak since a 12-game tear in 2009.

In game two, Idaho State led 6-0 in the sixth before Nevada got on the board. The Pack scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it close, but was unable to complete the comeback in the ninth, going down in order. Jenkins continued her hot day at the plate against the Bengals, posting the same line at the plate as she did against Santa Clara, 2-for-2 with a walk.

Megan Sweet hit her eighth double of the year in the sixth to score a run, and was followed a batter later by Ashley Butera, who doubled to score Sweet. Butera now has seven doubles this season. The other two Wolf Pack runs in the sixth came on a Lauren Lastrapes double. She was thrown out at third to end the inning on the play.

The Pack will look to beat Idaho State for the first time in four tries this season when the two teams meet Sunday at 12:30. Immediately following that game, the Pack will take on Santa Clara to close out the Wolf Pack Classic.
