Despite home runs from Sara Parsons and Ashley Butera, the University of Nevada softball team fell 9-7 to Sacramento State on Friday at the Mustang Classic.

The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 10-12, while the Hornets improved to 10-5.

Nevada clawed out of a seven-run hole to tie the game at seven in the top of the fourth inning. Behind after Sacramento State scored seven runs in the second, the Pack got three in the third and four in the fourth.

The three runs in the third came on the fourth home run of the season from Parsons, who tied Megan Fincher for the team lead with the blast. With two runs across in the top of the fourth, Ashley Butera came to the plate and hit her third home run of the year, tying the contest at seven.

Parsons is now 5-for-7 at the Mustang Classic with two doubles, one home run and six RBI.

A run from Sacramento State in the bottom of the fourth gave the Hornets the lead again, with one more in the fifth proving to be the final run of the game.

Bailey Brewer came on in relief of Megan Dortch and pitched three innings, getting the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year. Taylor Stroud came on in relief of Sacramento State starter Jennifer Hartman and pitched the final 3.2 innings to get the win. She is 2-2 in 2013.

Nevada will meet Rutgers at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in its next contest.
