RENO, Nev. – For the second day in a row the University of Nevada (21-16, 13-8 MW) baseball team got a walk-off hit to defeat Fresno State (19-21, 8-12 MW) by the same score of 9-8 at Peccole Park. On Friday it was Jordan Devencenzi with a single in the bottom of the 12th and today it was a solo home run by Bryce Greager in the bottom of the ninth.

After today’s victory the Pack moved into a tie for second place in the Mountain West standings at 13-8. Nevada is now 21-16 on the season while FS is 19-21 and 8-13 in conference play.

Nevada trailed 8-6 going to the bottom of the ninth inning but two home runs gave the Wolf Pack the victory and 2-1 series win. With one down designated hitter Trenton Brooks singled and outfielder Brad Gerig belted the 3-1 pitch over the left field fence to tie the game at eight. After the second out of the inning was recorded Greager stepped to the plate and hit the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for the 9-8 walk-off victory.

The Pack trailed 8-2 after seven innings before the rally began in the bottom of the eighth. Gerig started the rally with a single and with one out Greager also singled. Shortstop Kyle Hunt walked to load the bases and left fielder Kewby Meyer tripled to left center field to drive in three runs. On the play Meyer scored on an over throw at third base to get the Pack within a two 8-6. The four-run eighth setup the heroics in the bottom of the ninth.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the third, once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh to take an 8-1 lead into the late innings. It would not be enough as Nevada rallied from a 5-0 deficit for the second day in a row.

Colby Blueberg (3-1) pitched a perfect top of the ninth to earn his third win of the season. Jimmy Lambert (1-5) suffered the loss allowing seven runs in 1.2 innings on the mound.
