RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (21-18) baseball team dropped the first game of four in a nonconference series 12-0 at Utah (13-24) on Friday night at Smith’s Field. The Wolf Pack is now 21-18 and the Utes improved to 13-24.
After two scoreless innings Utah scored 12 runs in the next four innings on the way to the 12-0 victory. The Pack is 1-4 in shutouts this season.
Michael Fain (4-3) suffered the loss allowing seven runs, six earned in four innings on the mound. Mitch Watrous (3-4) earned the win tossing seven shutout innings and surrendered just two hits.
Nevada had five hits and tied its season-high committing five errors in the game. Five different players had singles for the Pack.
Five Utah batters had two hits as the Utes scored a season-high 12 runs on 13 hits. Second baseman Kody Davis (2-for-5,2R,3RBI) had two hits and a game-high three RBI
The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow starting a 12:00 p.m. PT.
