OREM, Utah – The University of Nevada (9-5) baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series at Utah Valley University (6-7) by a score of 17-6 today. The Wolf Pack is now 9-5 on the season and had its four-game win streak snapped. The Wolverines improved to 6-7.
Nevada scored six times in the top of the first inning but UVU scored 17 unanswered runs to win the game. The Pack sent 11 players to the plate in the top of the first inning and six scored as UVU starter Adam Gunn retired just two hitters. Nevada starter Tom Jameson was unable was unable to hold the lead and allowed seven runs, five earned on seven hits in his three innings on the mound.
The Wolverines used the big inning to take control. UVU scored three in the first and third innings and one in the second to move in front to stay 7-6. Four runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh totaled 17 for the Wolverines.
Jameson fell to 0-3 losing for the third time in as many starts this season. Ty Hanson (1-1) pitched 4.1 innings of hitless relief to earn his first win of the season. Braden Poole (1) tossed four shutout innings to record his first save of the year.
First baseman Kewby Meyer (4-for-5,R,RBI) collected four of the Pack’s nine hits in the game. Center fielder Jameson Rowe (2-for-5,2RBI) had two hits and two RBI.
Seven UVU hitters collected multiple hits in the game. Catcher Court Zollinger (4-for-5,3R,2RBI) led the Wolverines with four hits. Third baseman Stone Ramsey (2-for-5,2R,5RBI) and left fielder Kade Andrus (3-for-4,R,4RBI) drove in five and four runs respectively.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT on Friday.
