RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada point guard Deonte Burton has been named the Mountain West Conference basketball player of the week after averaging 26.5 points per game in a pair of narrow victories last week.
The senior from Los Angeles also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals for the Wolf Pack, who beat Cal Poly 60-58 and San Francisco 92-90.
Burton made 20-of-39 field goals over the two games, including 5-of-12 three-pointers.
Trailing Cal Poly 58-57 with 7 seconds left in the game, Burton drove the lane and converted a three-point play to put Nevada ahead by two. When the Mustangs got the ball back, he stole it before they could get off a final shot.
Against San Francisco, he scored 23 of his game-high 31 points in the second half.
