RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada baseball team showed a strong all-around performance en route to a 7-3 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies at Peccole Park on Friday.

The Wolf Pack (3-2) jumped out to an early lead over the Huskies (0-5) in the second inning and never looked back. Powering the way for the Pack was Bradey Shipley, as he went 8 innings with 10 strikeouts, 4 hits and only 1 walk, earning his first victory of the season.

Shipley sat down the first 12 batters he had faced, including striking out 8 of the first 13, and the Huskies did not record a hit until the fifth inning when Landon Tenhagen led off the inning with a double.

The scoring for the Pack started in the second inning when infielder Scott Kaplan lined a ball into the right-center gap for a stand up triple, scoring Brad Gerig. Kyle Hunt hit a liner into right to score Kaplan, his first hit of the season. After a Jamison Rowe sacrifice bunt, Kewby Meyer singled to the right side to bring home Ryan Teel and make it 3-0 Pack.

In the top of the 5th, the Huskies scored their only run off Shipley when Tenhagen scored on an Alex Klonowski RBI.

In the 5th, Meyer hit his second career home run, his first at Peccole Park, that stayed just inside the right foul pole to make it 5-1. He also extended his hitting streak to 6 games, while Brooks Klein and Austin Byler both extended their hitting streaks to 8 games.

The Wolf Pack will face the Huskies again tomorrow in a double header beginning at 11 A.M.
