RENO, Nev. – The Nevada football team will play host to five bowl teams from last season at Mackay Stadium as the 2014 Mountain West football schedule was released on Thursday.
“We are excited by the release today of the MW schedule,” second-year coach Brian Polian said. “At first glance, we are pleased with the way the schedule sets up. Four of our first six games are at home and that provides the opportunity to get off to a good start. We also like where the bye weeks fall.
“The home schedule is really strong and that will make for a great atmosphere at Mackay for our fans All in all, we are feeling good about the 2014 schedule.”
The Wolf Pack will four of its first six games at home as Southern Utah (Aug. 30) and Washington (Sept. 6) come to Mackay Stadium to open the 2014 campaign. After a visit to Arizona on Sept. 13, Nevada will have a bye week before entering Mountain West play at San Jose State on Sept. 27.
October begins with two home conference games as Boise State comes to Mackay Stadium on Oct. 4 and Colorado State visits on Oct. 11. Nevada steps out of conference play to travel to BYU on Oct. 18 and follows that with a trip to Hawai`i on Oct. 25.
San Diego State comes to Mackay Stadium on Nov. 1 and then Nevada will have its second bye of the season heading into a three-game homestretch. Nevada will travel to play Air Force on Nov. 15 before coming back to Mackay for the home finale on Nov. 22 against defending championship Fresno State.
The regular season concludes with the Battle for the Fremont Cannon in Las Vegas against UNLV on Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 29).
Nevada will open spring drills on April 2 with the annual Silver and Blue Spring Game on Saturday, April 26 at Mackay Stadium.

This is the second year of the initial four-year cycle in which each member institution will play every other Mountain West opponent home and away. The 2014 schedule will play out over 15 weeks, concluding on Sat., Dec. 6, with the Mountain West Football Championship Game to be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions.
Today’s release represents the first phase in the 2014 football schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of particular games to Thursdays and Fridays. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times, along with the picks for regional partner ROOT SPORTS and the Mountain West Network powered by Campus Insiders.
The 2014 MW football membership includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawai‘i, Nevada, San Diego State, San José State and UNLV in the West Division.
