RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada has completed its schedule for the 2014 volleyball season. The schedule includes 10 home matches at the Virginia Street Gym of which nine are Mountain West matchups. The Pack will play in three tournaments and nine road conference matches this season.
After hosting the Silver & Blue scrimmage at the Virginia Street Gym on Aug. 23 the Wolf Pack plays road tournaments the first three weekends of the season at Pepperdine, California and Denver. Nevada will play three matches in each tournament.
At the Pepperdine Tournament, Aug. 29-30 the Pack takes on Oral Roberts, Pepperdine and South Alabama. After the Pepperdine Tournament the Pack has an open weekend before hosting Sacramento State on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the only nonconference home match of the season. All home midweek matches will be played at 6:30 p.m. this year.
The Cal Tournament is Sept. 12-13 and Nevada plays UC Santa Barbara, Cal and Pacific. The Pack’s three matches at the Denver Tournament are versus UTEP, Denver and San Francisco the weekend of Sept. 19-20.
After the Denver Tournament the final 18 matches of the season comprise the Mountain West schedule. Nevada begins MW play at home hosting Air Force and New Mexico on Sept. 25 and 27 respectively. San Diego State and intrastate rival UNLV make trips to Reno in the middle of October. Fresno State, Utah State and Boise State are at the Virginia Street Gym the first week of November. The final two home matches of the season are Colorado State and San Jose State at the end of November.
Nevada plays six of eight matches in October on the road at Fresno State, Boise State and Utah State the first part of the month. The final three matches of October are at New Mexico, Air Force and San Jose State.
The Wolf Pack returns four starters and its starting libero from last year’s squad that posted a 4-26 record and went 2-16 in the Mountain West. A total of 12 letterwinners and three newcomers will comprise the 15 member squad for head coach Ruth Lawanson who enters her fourth season at Nevada.
