RENO – The University of Nevada announced the hiring of Stanford co-defensive coordinator Andy Buh to become the Wolf Pack's new defensive coordinator, head coach Chris Ault announced today.

Buh (pronounced: Boo) returns to Reno after playing and coaching for Nevada in the 1990s. He is coming off three successful seasons at Stanford, including the past two as the co-defensive coordinator for the Cardinal.

“Over the past 13 years, I have watched Andy grow into an outstanding defensive coach,” Ault said. “He will bring the sense of urgency and new energy that we need on that side of the ball. His experience at Stanford speaks volumes about his ability to coach at this level. Andy is a focused man who coaches just like he played – at full speed.”

“I am honored to be back in this community and to have the challenge of leading the Nevada defense,” Buh said. “It is a thrill to be back walking the sidelines of Mackay Stadium and to do so alongside Coach Ault. I’m fired up to get this defense going.”

In 13 seasons of collegiate coaching, Buh has worked at four other West Coast schools -- including two Pac-10 programs – and tutored a handful of players who went on to the NFL. He is fresh off a Sun Bowl appearance with the Cardinal as he helped Stanford to an 8-5 record and a tie for second place in the Pac-10.

Buh, 36, played at Nevada in 1993 and 1994 and helped the Pack to a Big West championship as a senior in 1994.

A native of Escondido, Calif. (Orange Glen HS), Buh played at Palomar College in Southern California, where he helped the team to a share of the 1991 Junior College Grid-Wire national championship as a freshman. He earned juco All-America honors as a sophomore in 1992 before transferring to Nevada.

Buh and his wife, Kelly, are expecting their first child in May.
