RENO, Nev. – Marissa Hammond tied her career-high with 16 points and led a total of four Nevada players in double figures as the University of Nevada women’s basketball team beat Cal State Monterey Bay 63-39 Friday night at Lawlor Events Center.

Hammond led Nevada with 16 points while Johnna Ward added 13, Nicole Williams scored a career-high 12 and Shavon Moore scored 10.

The Pack held Cal State Monterey Bay without a point until the 11:36 mark of the first half but Nevada didn’t hit the 10 point mark until the 8:32 mark of the first half when Ward hit a three pointer.

Nevada extended its first-half lead to 10 with a minute left in the half on Hammond’s jumper and the Pack went into the locker room leading 27-15 at half.

In the second half, Nevada led by 17, 41-24, after a three pointer by Ward with 12:46 to play. The Pack used a 10-0 run capped off by a layup from Kayla Williams to go ahead 59-34 with just over 3:30 to play in the game.

Nevada ended the game shooting 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the floor while the Otters shot 31.3 percent (15-of-48). Hammond and Moore each led Nevada with six rebounds each.

Sophomore point guard Amanda Johnson made her first career start Friday night and played a career-high 23 minutes. She recorded two points and four rebounds.

“I am really proud of us,” second-year head coach Jane Albright said. “We hadn’t played an official game this season before tonight and the second half is much more how we want to play. It was a balanced team effort.”

Nevada will host UC Santa Barbara Monday night at 7 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.
