Nevada’s Amanda Moreno and Fresno State’s Sharon Ayala have been named Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 13-19.

Moreno, a sophomore from Stockton, Calif. (Escalon HS), set a school record and regional qualifying time in the 5000m at the Mt. SAC Relays last weekend. Her time of 16:35.67 beat the previous Nevada record of 16:41.96 set by Jenna Huber in 2004. Moreno beat her previous personal record by nearly 22 seconds and now has the top time in the WAC this year by more than 30 seconds. She is also one of eight regional qualifiers for Nevada this season.

Ayala, a senior from Avenal, Calif. (Fresno City College), set a Fresno State school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 216 feet (65.84 meters) on the final day of the Mt. SAC Relays. The senior, who originally broke the record in 2008 and has reset it numerous times since, competed in the Invitational Division of the meet, taking seventh overall and second among collegiate athletes. The new mark, a 10-foot increase from her previous record, leads the WAC and ranks second in the nation.

Other track nominees: Boise State’s Breanna Sande, Fresno State’s Roxanne Sellick, Idaho’s Teegan Schoch, New Mexico State’s Brittany Hurtado and Utah State’s Elaine Connolly.

Other field nominees: Hawai‘i's Annett Wichmann, Idaho’s Darcy Collins, Nevada’s Constance McAlman, New Mexico State’s Sandra Anane and Utah State’s Krista Larson.
