Freshman Wessim Derbel picked up his second consecutive singles win but the University of Nevada men’s tennis team were defeated 6-1 to No. 50 Arizona on Sunday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Derbel picked up a win by defeating Ravid Hazi, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 in the No. 3 singles spot. Junior Laurent Garcin was downed by No. 88 Jay Goldman 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot.
In doubles action, the duo of Derbel and Garcin were defeated by No. 18 Pat Metham and Francois VanderMerwe 8-3.
“We created a lot of opportunities for ourselves today but didn’t convert often enough,” Nevada head coach Chad Stoloff said. “When you play a good team you have to capitalize on 50 percent or more of your chances. Our goal is to learn and get better each time out.”
The Wolf Pack will face Ponoma-Pitzer on Feb. 14, at Riverside, Calif. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. The Wolf Pack will also face UC Riverside on Feb. 15, at Riverside. The match time against UC Riverside is to be announced. Both matches will be held at UC Riverside’s Student Recreation Center Tennis Courts.
