Mourning Calls It Quits

Updated: 01/22/2009 - MIAMI (AP) - After being out of action since suffering significant leg injuries more than a year ago, seven-time All-Star center Alonzo Mourning is opting to retire rather than attempt another NBA comeback at age 38. Mourning tore the patella tendon and quadriceps muscle in his right leg on Dec. 19, 2007, which, coincidentally enough, was the fourth anniversary of his lifesaving kidney transplant.
