LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas minor league hockey team that was left homeless when the season ended says it will take a yearlong hiatus.

Las Vegas Wranglers President Billy Johnson said in a statement Tuesday that the team was close to finding home ice, but needed more time to seal the deal. The governing board of its league, ECHL, granted the Wranglers a voluntary suspension that allows the team to return for the 2015-2016 season.

The team was left scrambling for a new arena in December after Boyd Gaming announced it wouldn't renew the team's lease at Orleans Arena.

The Plaza hotel initially proposed building a rink on its roof, but the idea was later abandoned.

Current Wranglers players are free agents and can play with other teams in the upcoming season.
